An Infra-red Free Electron Laser (IR-FEL) based user facility has been developed at RRCAT, which delivers monochromatic, high brightness, short pulsed beams of lowenergy photons (25 - 100 meV photon energy or 50 - 12.5 micrometer wavelength) with continuous tunability of the photon energy for user experiments. Peak spectral brightness ~ 10 18 photons/s/mm2 /mrad 2 /0.1%BW has been achieved at a user stationin 10 ps pulses, which is several orders of magnitude higher than that achievableusing conventional sources at these wavelengths. Two experimental stations have been commissioned at the IR-FEL based user facility, and are available for user experiments: (i) Frequency domain spectroscopy under high magnetic field and low temperaturesample environment. (ii) Scanning imaging studies and absorption spectroscopy with online wavelengthmeasurement using a Michelson Interferometer. More user stations are planned to come up in the near future.
